Itinerary

The Great Ocean Road is a famous place in Victoria, Australia due to its beautiful coastlines, exquisite beaches, tropical rainforests, and unusual limestone formations.

One of the finest rock structures in the world “12 Apostles” situated close to Port Campbell National Park in Victoria, is one great sight to behold. The guides will explain the interesting facts of this beautiful coastline.

 

From Melbourne, we make our way to the Surf Coast, where we pass the quaint coastal towns of Anglesea, Lorne, and Airey’s Inlet. We stop for some morning tea to breathe in the refreshing seaside breeze, all the while admiring the surfers in the water. Given its location next to Antarctica, it is not hard to see why this is a popular surfing location, and why good wet suits are essential.

 

Tourists are allowed to make a stop at the Great Ocean Road monument which marks the starting point of the Great Ocean Road. Tourists can also take pictures at the Memorial Arch which is a famous site and read about the soldiers who built this road to pay respect to their departed comrades. Breathtaking sights continue to unfold along the road, inviting tourists to take more photographs.

 

Throughout the trip, there will be pauses made for the purpose of spotting wild Koalas along the Great Ocean Road. Their sighting is not assured, but our professional guides know the best spots in the bush where they are known to sleep.

 

Guests are able to purchase lunch in Apollo Bay which lasts up to 45 minutes. Afterward, guests can walk around Apollo Bay, buy some souvenirs or grab an ice cream before jumping back on the bus for the journey to Great Otway National Park.

 

We proceed along the Great Ocean Road and we head towards Great Otway National Park. Here, we encounter powerful Eucalyptus trees which transform into a Cool, Temperate Rainforest patch. As we stroll among the tree ferns, the scenery changes dramatically. The myrtle beach trees, which are quite ancient, and offer shade along with the Australian land from the Gondwanaland era. Now, let’s take a deep breath of fresh air before shipping off to the impressive shipwreck coast.

 

After leaving the trees and returning to the Southern Ocean, we reach Port Campbell National Park, known for the iconic 12 Apostles. We will spend approximately 40 minutes at the Apostles, allowing you to explore the area freely, walk along the boardwalks, and capture picturesque views of the stunning and untamed coastline.

Additionally, in the National Park, visitors can explore Loch Ard Gorge, famous for being the location of one of Australia’s most well-known shipwrecks. They can also learn about the dramatic story of Tom and Eva before heading to the beach to search for caves. This area is also home to rock formations like Island Archway, Razorback, and the ‘Salt and Pepper Shakers.

After a day of exploring, we bid farewell to the Great Ocean Road and head back to Melbourne via country roads. We drive through farmlands on our way to the town of Colac. Guests can grab a quick dinner at their own expense in Colac, as we will arrive back in Melbourne around 8:30 pm.
