The Bay of Fires has been voted as one of the top 10 beaches in the world!
This tour focuses on some of the best scenery that Tasmania has to offer. The drive to Scottsdale has panoramic views of the forests and farms and where you will see cattle grazing and crops growing in the fields.
Scottsdale is an agricultural farming town and has a unique history. Much of this is contained in the architecturally designed Forest Eco Centre.
On the way to Pyengana Dairy we can call in to see the amazing avenue of memorial tree carvings at Legerwood. Originally planted in 1918 by the families and friends of the tiny community’s fallen WW1 soldiers – one for each man, one for Gallipoli and one for the Anzacs – a lasting tribute, determined that these brave fathers, husbands, sons and sweethearts were never to be forgotten.
The Pyengana Dairy Company is nearby and you are able to taste award winning traditionally made cheddar cheeses here. It has featured in the top 100 Greatest Australian Gourmet Experiences.
Then we travel to St Helens for lunch at one of the local cafes or if you bring your own lunch it can be enjoyed on the white sands of the Bay of Fires.
After lunch we travel out to the Bay of Fires and as we approach the coastal town of Binalong Bay, you will be amazed at the pristine beaches, crystal clear sparkling water and the pure white sands. We travel north along the Bay of Fires and have opportunities to stop and have a walk to feel the “squeaky” white sand between your toes and watch the waves lap at your feet. Explore the Bay of Fires Conservation Area which stretches from Binalong Bay to Eddystone Point. This is an idyllic part of Tasmania’s coastline, tempting you with brilliant white beaches, turquoise coloured waters, crystal clear sparkling lagoons, wildflowers and lichen-covered granite rocks.
After regrettably dragging ourselves away from this spectacular panorama, we travel via the St Marys Pass back to Launceston. This winding road complete with hairpin bends and sheer cliffs was carved out of rock by a team of about 300 convicts, connecting St Marys to the coast.
Travel through St Marys and the Fingal Valley with views of Ben Lomond on the final leg of our tour.
